Plenty of mobile phones offer internet access while you’re out and about. This can be convenient but the download charges can be extremely costly, especially when you are overseas.

Consumer credit groups have warned of ‘bill shock’ – where phone users receive an unexpectedly large bill as a result of download charges. The cost can run into thousands of dollars, and in some cases consumers have had to take out personal loans to pay their mobile phone bill!

This makes it important to limit your internet access until you have a reasonable grasp of your likely monthly charges.
